The old town part of Sighisoara is located on the mountain overlooking the new part of town. We walked up the mountain on walkways and stairs made of stone. We planned to have dinner there and I think we made room for more calories by walking.
The church below is now a Lutheran Church. The church was established in 1298 then rebuilt between 1484 and 1680.
Every night at midnight bells chime. There are seven wooden figures. One emerges from the belfry and gazes over the lower part of the town. Two of the figures represent day and night and face the upper part of town.

Above the buildings on Citadel Hill the Saxon Fort was built on the site of a former Roman Fort. With the three steep inclines they could guard the road between Rupea and Sighisoara.

Below is the Fortified Church of St. Stefan in Saschiz Romania. Saschiz meant the "Village of the Seven Churches" Today's evangelical church, situated in the center of Saschiz was built approximately in 1493. It was first a Roman style church and later became a Cistercian Gothic church which was dedicated to the Hungarian King, Stefan the Holy. The church played a religious and defensive role so that they could protect the congregation. There is a separate tower.

The interior has an Austian Baroque style altar dating from 1735. The baptistry is made up of three parts. The bottom is from 1400, the middle from 1709 and the upper is from 1620. The organ is one of the ten largest of Transylvania which was built in 1788.

We are staying at the Ramada Inn in Brasov. It is very nice. The people are very friendly and helpful. The room is pretty, has a good internet connection, there is a workout room with a sauna and our stay includes a nice breakfast. The only disadvantage to the room is that there is a shower only. Sometimes I enjoy a bath.
The view from the window is beautiful. The homes on the side of the mountain are very colorful. There are horses, cows and sheep just below our window in a pasture. There are people there all day attending the animals and just sitting with them when they are not feeding them or moving them from one area to the next.
This is the straight ahead view from our hotel room in Brasov.

Bob, his boss Ryan and I arrived in Bucharest Romaina April 25th 2009. We flew from DFW to Franfurt Germany, to Bucharest. A pre-arranged driver met us at the airport to continue a two and a half drive through the mountians to Brasov. Some of my photos will be taken through the window of the car so it will not always allow for a quality picture. But it still give you an idea what we are seeing in Romania.

Ft. Worth Water Gardens Posted by Picasa
Bob is mentoring a group of young people from Romania. From left to right is Kinga, Alexandra, Radu, and Andrei. They have been here for about a month. We showed them around the Ft. Worth area and had them here for dinner a couple of times. We are leaving Friday for Romania so that Bob can continue the teaching there. I am going also. They were so kind to offer to show us around while we are there and want us to meet their parents. We are looking forward to the experience. It will especially be nice already having new friends. The background of this picture is in Las Colinas as they stand in front of the Mustangs. I plan to blog pictures and events while we are in Romania. Posted by Picasa

After a night of storms and much needed rain Sunday afternoon (Easter) turned out to be warm and beautiful! The friends and family attending dinner were Joy, Rob, Brooke and Austin, John, Casey, Peyton and Jack, Angie, Robert, Donna, Howard, and Chris, John, Diana, and Brittney, Kim and Tapio, Tamara, Bill, Liam, and four Romanians visiting here in the US who work with Bob. I will share pictures of them soon. We gave them a tour of the Ft. Worth area last week. They are such nice people and we have enjoyed them. Bob and I are going to Romania in a couple of weeks and they offered to show us around in their area. We are really looking forward to it.
